Project

To explore sculpture, photography, and tonal drawing as part of a nautical-themed project.

Year 9

As part of this project, students were tasked with creating a sculpture in the style of Stephanie Kilgast using plasticine and tin cans. The classroom was then transformed into a photography studio, where students used macro and DSLR cameras to take experimental photographs of their work. Following this, they were taught how to produce a detailed tonal drawing of a selected section of their photograph.

"It was great to see students taking the time to replicate their own photographs in pencil. I think because they enjoyed taking the photographs, it positively influenced their engagement with the next task."
