Sam Davies is a Lead Technologist at the Digital Catapult focussing on data sharing around Creative Industries looking at how technologies such as semantic web and blockchain can be utilised in this field. After completing degrees in Music and Computer Science, Sam began working for the BBC's Research & Development labs primarily focussing on developing machine learning techniques for content based analysis of multimedia. From here, Sam went to workas a research engineer for AlertMe, a home IoT company where he developed statistical modelling techniques for home automation. Prior to joining the Digital Catapult Sam worked for the publishing company Elseiver, researching and implementing semantic web technologies for document search and retrieval. The Digital Catapult is focused on developing breakthroughs for the UK around four areas of proprietary data: 1. Sharing closed data between organisations, 2.sharing personal data in a way that's secure and trusted 3.sharing licensed data more simply and 4.sharing data generated across the Internet of Things. As a not-for-profit, private limited company, the Digital Catapult is tasked with delivering income from collaborative r∓d, generating commercial income as well as receiving funding from Innovate UK.
