Origins of extremism: the rise of the Nazi party

On 13 July 2021 CAGE was delighted to host Professor Joachim Voth (University of Zurich) who delivered the annual Crafts Lecture.

Professor Voth's 'The origins of extremism: Insights into the rise of the Nazi party' drew on his research in this area. He explored the long-run history of the development of anti-semitic beliefs in Germany, the impact of the economic crisis of the interwar years reinforcing anti-semitism and the role of social networks in encouraging and normalising support for the Nazi party. His insights highlighted lessons for our understanding of support for extreme politics today.
