Workshop to Celebrate 125 Years of the Sale of Goods Act

The Sale of Goods Act 1893 received Royal Assent on 20 February 1894, and so 2019 marks the 125th anniversary of the first codification of aspects of English sales law. The 1893 Act was amended many times since it received Royal Assent, with consolidation in 1979 and many changes since then, so the 125th anniversary is a good point in time to take stock and consider what the future may hold for the Sale of Goods Act. Topics will focus on the general role of the Sale of Goods Act and its relevance in the 21st century; the status and possible future development of aspects such as the rules on the transfer of ownership, nemo dat and retention of title, as well as a look towards the digital future.
