Each year Chambers interviews over a thousand trainee lawyers, pupils, hiring partners, managing partners and barristers, whose comments offer the vivid insights students need to make good decisions and apply with confidence. This session will demonstrate how to get the most out of our research and analysis.

At Careers in the Public Sector, you will gain an understanding of the different roles and career paths open to you. Representatives from organisations working in the public sector will deliver a series of virtual presentations. Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity for networking with the speakers in an online Q&A session.

We will be hosting a virtual open day to help you find out more about our practice areas, clients, vacation schemes and training contracts.

This workshop will explain some basic features of common law systems to students who have been trained in a different legal tradition.

Taking English law, the mother of all common law jurisdictions, as an example we will explore:

• the various meanings of the term common law
• the division between law and equity
• typical features of common law systems
• sources of law
• the doctrine of precedent and
• statutory interpretation,

and will note where there are differences within the common law world.

There are several short video recordings and further reading explaining key features available in the material for the MS Teams session on 19 October. In the session itself, we will be discussing these issues further and do some practical exercises.

This webinar will be a short presentation on creating CVs and covering letters and completing application forms. It will be followed by the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have in regards to writing effective applications.

Title: 'Deepfake Pornography: Unreal Images, Real Impacts'

‘Deepfake’ refers to the use of machine learning to create hyper-realistic images and videos melding recognisable features of target subjects with existing videos, creating the ability to circulate videos which appear to be entirely plausible – but are in fact completely fake. This paper discusses the myriad uses of deepfakes, for frivolous and fun reasons, as well as the murkier underside of deepfake generation. Using pornography as an example, the paper explores the limited protection available for victims of deepfaking, and emphasises the need to create a personal right which protects individuals and their right to privacy against the harms caused by the creation and distribution of non-consensual sexual imagery'
