Law, Life and Critique: Global Economic Regulation in Context

Law, Life and Critique is series of webinars, led by Dr Velimir Zivkovic, offering a unique opportunity to join in a conversation with leading practitioners and academics on both the law and critiques of it, as well as the realities of the working life in these different spheres. We encourage our students and staff to send any questions they might have for our guests.

Our first guest is Dániel Dózsa who will be in conversation with Dr Zivkovic on Friday, 5 February 2021 from 1pm - 2pm (see our event listing for details).

Dániel Dózsa is a partner at the new Central European boutique firm Queritius, a leading international disputes counsel and a guest lecturer of International Dispute Resolution at Leiden Law School.

He focuses his practice on contentious EU regulatory and competition matters and on international commercial and investor-state disputes. He has vast experience on handling cases before the world’s leading arbitral fora, including ICSID, ICC and under UNCITRAL rules. Dániel has represented private companies, state-owned enterprises, and national governments in major international arbitration cases and advised parties in disputes involving oil, gas, electricity and telecommunication. He is listed among the 'Future Leaders of Arbitration' for 2021 by Who’s Who Legal and has been recommended for international arbitration by The Legal 500 UK.

Our second guest is Baiju Vasani who will be in conversation with Dr Dr Zivkovic on Friday, 12 February 2021 from 1pm - 2pm (see our event listing for details).

Baiju Vasan is the global head of international arbitration at Ivanyan and Partners in Moscow, a leading international disputes counsel, a Senior Fellow of SOAS University of London, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and sits on the panel of several arbitral institutions, including ICSID. With nearly two decades of practice, Baiju focuses exclusively on investor-state disputes and commercial arbitration.

Our third guest in the series in Diane Desierto who will join us on Friday, 26 February 2021 from 2pm - 3pm (see our event listing for details).

Diane Desierto is a Professor of Law and LLM Faculty Director at the University of Notre Dame with a joint appointment at the Keough School of Global Affairs. Diane teaches, publishes, and practices in the areas of international law and human rights, international economic law and development, international arbitration, maritime security, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Law, and comparative public law.

Our fourth guest is Clare Gibbons who will be in conversation with Dr Zivkovic on Thusday, 2 February 2023 from 1pm - 2pm (GMT), S.2.09 (see our event listing for details).

Clare Gibbons is a banking lawyer with Allen & Overy and have worked in banking department for almost three decades. She will focus on the hot topics in the European loan market in this event. She will be covering trends in UK legislation, changes to the foundations of international finance, how no jurisdiction remains an island and also having a look at what’s on the horizon.
