On the second day of my visit the team and I visit Marsa – an area of Valetta that is hidden away from the main tourist and business areas of the capital city.
Marsa is located near to an industrial part of Valetta’s grand harbour and in the sweltering midday sun we walk around the area immediately outside the Open Centre. Directly opposite the Centre is a port – pictured above – with rusting vessels, disused cranes, and murky polluted water.
I am told by one of the team members that this is considered to be a ‘no-go’ area after dark, but with our expensive sunglasses, digital cameras, and recording devices it feels uncomfortable during daylight hours.
