GV19 Mathematics and Philosophy Course Regulations 2021-22 and 2020-21

This degree course is a 4-year variant of the 3-year BA/BSc in Mathematics and Philosophy (see above). The first, second, third and fourth year of the programme contribute credit to the final degree classification in the ratio 10:20:30:40.
The degree is designed to appeal to students with a special interest in mathematical logic and the philosophy of mathematics. The mathematics component is comparable to that required for the BSc in pure mathematics and the philosophy component is comparable to that required for the BA in philosophy, with a concentration in logic and foundational issues. Upon completion of the degree, students will be prepared to advance to postgraduate work in both mathematics and philosophy.
The first year of this degree course is identical to the first year of the BSc in Mathematics and Philosophy (GV17). To transfer to the 4-year variant, students must achieve at least a good 2.1 classification in their first year examinations, and to remain on the 4-year variant, students must have a good 2.1 classification in their second year examinations.
Year 1
The first year is identical to the Mathematics and Philosophy (GV17) course.
Candidates can only transfer to the Mathematics and Philosophy with Specialism in Logic and Foundations course in year 2 subject to their 1st year results.
Year 2
The normal load is 120 CATS credits, the maximum is 150 CATS (those who have joined the degree prior to 2016/17 may take up to 160 CATS credits but 150 CATS is the recommended maximum load) .
Candidates for honours degrees are required to take the following modules: |

Year 3
