Fees & funding

Fees

Tuition fees are updated on an annual basis; the latest fee information can be found on the university Study pages. This page is particularly useful because it also includes information about how to calculate living costs, which will help you create a budget for your time as a research student.

MPhil Funding

A number of Philosophy Department scholarships and bursaries are available for applicants to our MA and MPhil programmes who are commencing study in 2025/26. Please visit our website: Philosophy Scholarships and Bursaries (warwick.ac.uk).

PhD Funding

Funding is one of the biggest challenges when considering postgraduate study, which is why Warwick is working to increase the number of part- and fully-funded scholarships every year.

The philosophy department has a good track record of securing funding through Warwick's main scholarship competitions, for the best of our applicants. To give yourself the best chance at being nominated for a scholarship, your application should demonstrate that you have:

  • A record of outstanding academic achievement
  • Strong engagement within your chosen subject
  • A clear project that fits well with the research interests of members of the department
  • Experience in relevant extra-curricular activities
  • Very strong references, which also provide a strong indication that you will make a wider contribution to the department and the academic community

In order to maximise your chances of securing funding, you should make contact with a potential supervisor to discuss your application as early as possible, and before you apply. The How to apply pages have more details about how to go about this.

You are strongly advised to submit your main PhD application at least 6 weeks before your earliest scholarship deadline. If you plan to apply to the main Warwick competitions, you should aim to submit your PhD application before Christmas.

In addition to the scholarship opportunities listed below, candidates living in England may be eligible for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan from the UK government; you can read the full details, including eligibility criteria, on the Doctoral Loan website.

A full list of available scholarships including eligibility criteria and deadlines is available on the Warwick PGR Scholarship Competitions website.
