Profile
I am an artist and researcher examining the impacts of anonymity imposed on prisoners sharing artworks publicly. Researching part-time, I plan to build on my professional art/prison collaboration experience to gather data through interviews and creative methods, including a public exhibition on the research themes co-produced with people in prison. I will undertake research in a number of UK prisons (to interview staff members and learners engaged in visual art) in addition to consulting with victim groups.
Recent public art making from prison can be seen in a number of my recent projects on fayeclaridge.co.ukLink opens in a new window, including two linking UK and US prisons:
- We BearLink opens in a new window, visited by more than 50,000 people in the UK and 300,00 in the US.
- We RoarLink opens in a new window, the first creative exhibition ever to tour nine consecutive prisons in England, plus a US exhibition.
- An Impact Report from We Roar was also launched at the Prisoner Arts In Context: Global Perspectives symposium in November 2024, as part of my work on the board for the UKRI-funded Captive ArtsLink opens in a new window project.
My PhD is funded through a Midlands4Cities studentship and is supervised by Prof. Anastasia Chamberlen and Prof. Eileen John at the University of Warwick and Prof. Dominique Moran at the University of Birmingham.
