Google Wave now available as part of mail.wbs

Google Wave is now available as part of mail.wbs. To access it please visit http://wave.wbs.ac.uk  and log in with your regular mail.wbs username and password.

Wave is an online communication and collaboration tool that combines some of the best features of email, IM and social networking. To learn more about Wave you may wish to watch the two short /videos below:

http://wave.google.com/about.html (1.39)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKUAqNGVwX0 (3.42)

Unfortunately Wave does not currently work with Internet Explorer. Four machines in the PG IT Suite have already been set up with Windows 7 and Google Chrome. Over the coming weeks/months we will be upgrading all open access student machines in the same way. We intend to keep some machines on XP however until the end of your project period in case the changes causes disruption to your projects.

We have the ability to embed Waves directly into my.wbs and will be encouraging any teaching staff with an interest in this to contact us.

A few words of warning:

  • Google Wave is a beta product: it is likely to sometimes crash (although it is considerably more robust than when first released a year ago)
  • Google Wave is not covered by our regular Google support contract. In short, if you lose work in Google Wave, Google will not be able to retrieve it for you.

Happy waving!
