XP USERS - RENEWING YOUR KASPERSKY ANTIVIRUS LICENCE
Most users of Windows XP (if you see 'WBS Applications' when you log in you are using XP) will need to renew the licence for their Kaspersky antivirus software. Please see http://help.wbs.ac.uk/kb/software/anti-virus/renew_kaspersky/

ACROBAT READER VERSION X
The latest version of Acrobat Reader (the free product) is now available for installation from 'Run Advertised Programs' (Windows 7) or 'WBS Applications' (Windows XP). This is considerably more secure than previous versions of Acrobat Reader and it is advised that you install this on both your work and home computers. As well as the increased security the free reader product now includes some basic editing tools such as 'commenting' and 'text highlighting'.

LATEST VERSION OF PDF CONVERTER AVAILABLE
Version 7 of PDF Converter is now available for installation on Windows 7 machines. Any XP user who wants this software should email help@wbs.ac.uk . Unlike the Reader product mentioned above PDF Converter allows for the creation, manipulation and editing of PDF documents. The University's site licence for this product includes its use on the personal computers of both staff and students. To download this for use on a personal computer please see: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/its/servicessupport/software/pdfconverter

Given this site-wide licence we are considering replacing Acrobat Writer with PDF converter on all WBS computers. We believe PDF Converter to be at least as capable as Acrobat. If you have any more-challenging requirements for PDF creation and manipulation please email them to help@wbs.ac.uk so we can investigate whether PDF Converter is a suitable choice.

REQUESTS TO PURCHASE OLD COMPUTING EQUIPMENT
We sometimes receive queries about whether it is possible for staff to purchase old WBS computing equipment for home use. Unfortunately this is not possible. Central Purchasing and IT Services did investigate this but concluded that there were too many legal issues:

"The University does not sell (or even give) obsolete PCs or laptops to staff as there are too many legal issues - software licences, the need to clear down data securely, health and safety liability if there is an electrical fault, potential responsibility if at end of life the equipment is not disposed of in an environmentally suitable way etc. Both the Purchasing Office and IT Services have been into this in some detail, leading to this decision." - http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/its/servicessupport/disposals

WEBMAIL ACCESS ON AN IPHONE OR IPAD & TEST USERS REQUIRED FOR NEW ACTIVESYNC SERVICE
We have become aware that it is not possible to read emails on the new Webmail when using an Ipad/iphone as they have no 'double-click' capability. To workaround this please select the 'Use the basic interface' option on the Webmail login page. Alternatively, we are looking for test users of a new email 'activesync' service that will allow you to sync your email, calendar and contacts between GroupWise and a wide range of mobile devices including iPhones/Ipads. If you are interested in being a test user please let us know at help@wbs.ac.uk .

SPRING CLEAN YOUR EMAIL - HOW TO REDUCE YOUR MAILBOX SIZE
WBS Staff have a mailbox quota of 4GB. If you run out of space you will always continue to receive messages but will be unable to send until you reduce the size of your mailbox. For advice on how to do this see: http://help.wbs.ac.uk/kb/email/staff/mailboxsize/
