HELP US TO HELP YOU BY...
1) Checking the service status information at http://help.wbs.ac.uk when you have a problem to see if it is a known issue (e.g. network problem, dead server). This is your best source of up-to-date information.
2) Logging calls online at http://help.wbs.ac.uk/call . This allows us to capture valuable troubleshooting information automatically, ensure calls are dealt with in priority order and provides an auditable log should there be any dispute regarding a request.
NEW ISSU HELPDESK WEBSITE LAUNCHED
- A simplified navigation menu
- Content filtering (options to only see information relevant to staff, students or both)
- Easier access to common functions via the 'Toolbox' and 'Launchpad'.
- Service status information. This is the first place to look if you are wondering whether there is a known system problem. Twitter users can also subscribe to this feed using the 'Follow us' button.
3 WEEKS' NOTICE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF NEW APPLICATIONS
The preparation and testing of new applications requires a substantial investment in time. In particular it is not uncommon for suppliers to send incorrect copies of new programs, non-working licence keys or for there to be software conflicts. Occasionally ISSU staff also have holidays (!) For these reasons we require 3 weeks' notice for the installation of new applications or upgrades to current ones. For more information see: http://help.wbs.ac.uk/kb/software/licences/new_apps/
PROMETHEAN TABLETS IN ALL TEACHING ROOMS
All teaching rooms at WBS (apart from A2 and M2) now have Promethean Tablets installed. This works as an electronic flipchart/ tablet PC and allows you to annotate your presentations with an Activpen. For a quick demo, please see our website: http://help.wbs.ac.uk/kb/services/av/activpanel
VOLUNTEERS TO PILOT THE USE OF WINDOWS 7
Windows 7 is Microsoft's new version of its operating system. It has generally been accepted as a more secure and easier-to-use upgrade from previous Microsoft OS's (although I know those of you who use a Mac may be slightly less gushing). A number of users within ISSU have been piloting its use for around 6 months. We are now approaching a point when we would like to widen the pilot out to other WBS staff. If you are interested in being such an early adopter please let us know.
