SCAM WARNING: UNWANTED SUPPORT CALLS
There is a new scam that might affect you at home. In the scam you are 'cold-called' by someone claiming to be an IT support engineer. The caller typically says they have remotely identified some problem with your computer and tries to trick you into allowing them to connect to your computer. They can then either try to sell you unwanted 'support' services or plant software on your computer that could allow them to take control and read your private files. Take care and please see the following Guardian story for more information:

INFLUENCING THE TIMING OF IT MAINTENANCE WORK
Both IT Services and ISSU are always keen to learn more about the timing of critical business activities so that maintenance work can be planned to minimise disruption. Such information can be sent to the ITS Customer Service team at customerservice@warwick.ac.uk and to ISSU via the Helpdesk, help@wbs.ac.uk . Of course it is rarely possible not to cause some disruption, although most such work is undertaken in the evenings or over weekends wherever possible.
FOR RESEARCHERS: REPLACEMENT OF PRIMROSE AND MIMOSA
ITS have announced their plan to replace the above servers on Tuesday 15 December, between 09:30 and 11:00. The replacement servers will be more powerful and will run the latest versions of software such as Matlab, Mathematica and Maple.
WBS researchers may wish to consider the use of these upgraded facilities to support their research. Such staff are recommended to contact the ITS Helpdesk in the first instance (helpdesk@warwick.ac.uk or Tel 73737).
