Changes to remote desktop access for staff and PhD Researchers

IT Services have announced that they will take steps to prevent Remote Desktop access, starting from 14th January 2013. These changes will affect WBS staff too.

With immediate effect, staff wishing to connect to their WBS computer using Remote Desktop must establish a secure VPN session first. Fortunately this is very easy to do, see our updated instructions at http://help.wbs.ac.uk/remotedesktop (stage 2 is the additional step). From 14th January 2013 this will be the only way that Remote Desktop will be possible.

WBS eSolutions are confident that with this additional step Remote Desktop remains a secure and convenient way to work remotely. We believe that any additional action to block Remote Desktop access beyond that already announced by IT Services would be disproportionate. We shall continue to work with our ITS colleagues with the aim of maintaining secure and convenient access to your work.
