Yiannis Ioannou, London

Paper Tile: "CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCESS TO FINANCE"

Yiannis is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the London Business School. As an undergraduate at Yale University, he double majored in Economics and Mathematics and graduated magna cum laude. Professor Ioannou holds a Ph.D. in Business Economics, a doctoral degree offered jointly by the Harvard Economics Department and the Harvard Business School, and has specialized in Strategic Management.

Jeroen Derwall, Maastricht

Paper Title: "Employee Relations and Bondholder Risk"

Jeroen Derwall is assistant professor of Finance at Maastricht University and assistant professor at Tilburg University. In addition, he is responsible for executive teaching on portfolio management for the Dutch Financial Analysts Association (VBA) at the Free University of Amsterdam. Previously, he was assistant professor of Financial Management at RSM Erasmus University, where he obtained his PhD in Financial Management in 2007. His research experience covers the areas of ESG investing, corporate social responsibility, equity and fixed-income portfolio management, and mutual funds. Jeroen Derwall actively shares his expertise on sustainable investing through workshops for investment practitioners and local governments. His findings have been published in widely read international journals, such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Financial Analysts Journal, and the Journal of Business Ethics. His ESG research has been awarded the 2005 Moskowitz Prize for best quantitative study in the SRI domain, and the 2005 and 2007 European Finance & Sustainability Research Awards.

Sara Moeller, University of Pittsburgh

Paper Title: "Globalization, governance, and the returns to cross-border acquisitions"

Dr. Moeller’s work on mergers and acquisitions and risk management has been widely cited and published in scholarly journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies. In addition, her work has been presented at many conferences including the NBER Corporate Finance conference and has been cited in the press including The Economist, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. Prior to joining the Katz Graduate School at the University of Pittsburgh , she was Assistant Professor of Finance at Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and an Associate Professor of Finance at the graduate school at Wake Forest University .

Dr. Moeller is an award winning teacher who has taught a variety of finance courses at the doctorate, executive, masters and undergraduate level. Her teaching interests are focused in the area of corporate finance.

Dr. Moeller, who is a tenured Associate Professor of Finance, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with majors in finance and economics at the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie College of Business, a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Graduate School of Management, and both a Master of Arts (concentration, finance) and a PhD in finance at the Fisher School.

Before her career in academia, Dr. Moeller worked as a director of special projects at AJC International, a leader in the marketing of frozen and refrigerated food products, as well as in logistics and logistics services. Dr. Moeller managed and reengineered AJC’s international commodity/branded distribution business and implemented a risk management and business segment analysis. From 1986 to1989, she was also a commodity trader for Cargill, Inc., an international provider of food, agricultural, and risk management products and services.

Marieke van der Poel, Rotterdam School of Management

Paper Title: "Are founder firms overvalued as acquisition targets?"

Marieke van der Poel is Assistant Professor at the Finance Department of the Rotterdam School of Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. She received her MSc in Business Administration from the Erasmus University in 2003 and her PhD in Finance from the Rotterdam School of Management in 2008. She spent the spring of 2007 as a visiting doctoral student at the College of Business, Florida State University. In the fall of 2008, she was a visiting scholar at the Katz School of Business, Pittsburgh University. Van der Poel's research interests are in the area of empirical (behavioral) corporate finance. Her work has been presented at several seminars and international conferences.

Philipp Krueger, University of Geneva

Paper Title: "Gender Diversity and Stakeholder Welfare"

Philipp is a research fellow at the Geneva Finance Research Institute, a multidisciplinary research centre located at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. In 2010, he successfully defended his PhD in Economics at the Toulouse School of Economics in France. In his thesis, he has studied questions such as whether the board of directors affects a firm’s stakeholder relations or whether and how stock markets react to stakeholder related information in the very short run. More recently, he has created and taught a new course on Sustainable Investing in the joint Master of Science in Finance programme of the Universities of Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchâtel. In current research with Augustin Landier and David Thesmar, he is studying the impact of behavioural biases on real investment decisions.

Alberta Di Giuli, ISCTE

Paper Title: "Are Red or Blue Companies More Likely to go Green? Politics and Corporate Social Responsibility"

Alberta Di Giuli is an Assistant Professor of Finance at ISCTE Business School, Lisbon. Her research focuses on corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Dr. Di Giuli was a research assistant at the London School of Economics and a visiting fellow at Harvard Business School. She received her PhD and MSc in Finance from Bocconi University, Milan.
