And Beyond

We focus on five strategic regions – China, Europe, Australia, North America, and Africa – but understand the value of developing new opportunities and relationships to expand our international portfolio and collaborate with leading institutions.

Find out more about our collaborative projects across the globe

We are consistently evaluating the academic landscape for new and innovative opportunities with leading institutions across the globe. It is only through collaboration and joint efforts that we can increase our research efforts for both students and academics. Below are just a few examples from our international networks:

Indonesia

In Indonesia, Warwick is developing joint research and teaching activities at the top universities of Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

As a founding member of the UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences (UKICIS) we are enhancing Anglo-Indonesian educational, economic, and cultural links, through outreach activities and community engagement including The IISMA scheme which funds Indonesian undergraduate students to spend one semester at Warwick.

Warwick researchers have successfully secured external funding from sources such as the UK government’s Newton Fund, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the British Council, to support research collaborations with their Indonesian counterparts in areas ranging from chemical engineering and infrastructure and health monitoring to political economy.

Singapore

Warwick has an extensive history of collaboration with Singapore’sNanyang Technological UNTUniversity (NTU), spanning joint degrees, student exchange and undergraduate research, as well as disciplinary-level research partnerships. In 2020 we hosted eleven Science and Engineering undergraduates from NTU to complete interdisciplinary research based training.

Warwick’s Medical School also offers fully funded four-year PhD studentships in Molecular Cell Biology and Microbiology, with students spending 2 years at Warwick and 2 years in Singapore at an A*STAR national research agency. Building on the success of a well-established double Masters degree programme with NTU in Politics and International Studies, Warwick's Department of Physics and NTU's School of Material Science & Engineering were the first departments to set up a Joint PhD programme in 2021.

Brazil

Warwick supports early-stage research collaborations with Brazilian universities through the FAPESP-Warwick Joint Fund (São Paulo state only) and the International Partnership Fund.

Past collaborations have secured larger grants from the Newton Fund, the Global Challenges Research Fund, and FAPESP. We also benefit from agreements with the Federal University of Minas Gerais, the University of São Paulo and the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

The Alliance addressing fundamental questions in science

What are the basic building blocks of matter? What are the fundamental interactions? What happened in the earliest stages of the Universe, and how did that result in what we observe around us today? Large international collaborations are needed to progress towards answering these questions. Bringing together expertise from Warwick and Monash groups has created a unique alliance that enables us to take ever-stronger leadership in these international endeavours.
