Warwick stands with Ukraine

What Are EUTOPIA Connected Communities

The University of Warwick stands with Ukraine during the current war with Russia, and will continue to do so in the post-war reconstruction period. A range of departments and colleagues from across the institution are contributing to Warwick’s Ukraine-focused work, and meet regularly as a working-group to discuss existing initiatives and explore new ones. Three recent projects are showcased below.

Twinning partnership with NURE

The University of Warwick has entered into an official agreement with Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (NURE) under the Twinning programme. In 2023, NURE and Warwick have carried out a research collaboration with £178k of funding from UKRI, involving colleagues from Computer Science, WMG, and other departments. Students from NURE have participated in summer schools at Warwick, and further initiatives are planned for 2024 and beyond.

Summer School with Ukrainian Catholic University

Twenty students from the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv visited Warwick campus for a two-week summer school in 2023. The programme was devised and facilitated by the departments of History and English, with financial support from the Institute of Advanced Study. Collaboration with Ukrainian Leadership Academy

Bo Kelestyn and Gwen van der Velden have launched a new Leadership for Educational Transformation programme in partnership with the Ukrainian Leadership Academy (ULA). Forty educators from Ukraine attended the first module of the programme in summer 2023, and described it as a ‘beacon of investment in Ukraine’s future’. Module 2 took place in January/February 2024, and Module 3 is scheduled for May. An MoU was also signed between Warwick, the ULA, and Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science.

Since 2020, our communities have been organising cross-campus activities for students. Students are at the heart of the activities, and they shape their own learning outcomes. The ambition is to develop students with intercultural skills, international networks, and global relationships.
