The XMaS beamline [1], is an EPSRC funded National Research Facility supporting the UK materials science communities, located at the European Synchrotron (ESRF) in Grenoble (France). The ESRF is currently undergoing a massive upgrade that will deliver the most brilliant x-ray beam in the world in 2020 and the XMaS beamline has also been upgraded to accommodate and take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the new storage ring. This year our User Meeting will be rather special, as it will focus on what new research is now possible, with the in-house team describing our new capabilities. A range of scientific talks will highlight the broad research portfolio covered by our user community.

As well as our usual vibrant mix of mouth watering street food and local, fresh produce in the Piazza and Benefactors Place this week, come and join us for an extremely local Christmas market. From cheese to candles, this is a real community market in the heart of the campus. There will be festive treats as well as performances from Warwick Magic Society, the Brass Society, the University of Warwick Big Band and the Argentine Tango Society.

The event will run from 11.00am with a screening of the Muppet Christmas Movie at 5.30pm.

Biography

Fanya Ismail is recognised as one of the most innovative women in the UK as she was announced a winner of the “Women in Innovation” award 2019 by Innovate UK for inventing a paper coating technology to replace plastic linear in coffee cups.

She is the CEO and founder of SGMA, a company focusing on the development of sol-gel technology, delivering solutions to global challenges.

Fanya is an entrepreneur, with expertise that span the chemistry, business and legal sector. Fanya obtained a PhD from the University of Manchester in 2003. She previously worked for QMUL, University of Manchester and Kingston University.
