Moves+ app about to hit 10k sign-ups

Since launching in September 2023, Moves+ has taken Warwick by storm, with over 9,200 students and staff registered on the app. Whether you like to walk, run, swim or cycle, the app incentivises our movement and allows us to earn rewards, from jacket potatoes to cups of coffee.

We caught up with Jade Woodward, Active Wellbeing Manager, to find out why the app was introduced, what we've achieved so far, and where we're striving towards.

What is Moves+?

“It’s a free activity rewards app which encourages our staff and students to move more. The app generates points when we cycle, walk, swim and run, which can be redeemed against different rewards.

There’s a range of rewards, such as Sports and Wellness Hub passes, Warwick-branded merchandise, and hot drinks across campus, rewarding our commitment to being more active.

Moves+ sets manageable activity targets and helps motivate students and staff as they work towards redeeming their next reward.”

Why was Moves+ brought to Warwick?

“We introduced the app to encourage our staff and students to interact more, be more active and build relationships across the campus community, embracing head-to-head challenges and sharing group goals.”

What's surprised you so far?

"The amount of people and engagement on the app in such a short space of time. We were only targeting to have 2,000 students and staff signed up by the end of this academic year and we reached that within three weeks of launching.

So far, our community has walked 3 billion steps using the app - that's equivalent to walking around the planet 41 times!

It really shows the importance of the need for the app within the Warwick community and we hope to continue building a platform that keeps people engaged and active whilst at Warwick!"

What's next?

"Our target is to have 10,000 people registered on Moves+ and we will be doing a ‘Big 10,000 user prize draw’. Details will be released on the Moves+ app, there will be lots of prizes from across the University including Warwick Retail voucher, Active Travel bike hire minutes, 5-a-side pitch hire, personal trainer session and lots more.

We are also looking to develop our work with academic faculties and run more departmental-specific challenges following the success of the Warwick Business School undergraduate challenge. Challenges for Varsity, Green week and De-Stresstival are upcoming too."
