Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey results 2019
The results of the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) 2019 are now available. Overall satisfaction with PG taught courses has risen from 84% in 2018 to 85%.
Thank you to everyone who encouraged their postgraduate taught students to complete the survey. An impressive 48% of eligible students responded.
There were increases across every question category, and 41 of 43 questions have improved (with the other two questions staying the same). These results place Warwick in the top quarter of the sector for all sections (except ‘assessment’ and ‘overall’, where we are in the second quarter).
Results for several question categories increased by 5% or more:
- There is sufficient contact time to support effective learning
- Feedback on my work has been useful
- Any changes in the course or teaching have been communicated effectively
- I am encouraged to be involved in decisions about how my course is run
Aspects of university teaching which respondents reported satisfaction at 90% or higher included:
- Teaching staff are good at explaining things
- Teaching staff are enthusiastic
- I am encouraged to ask questions or make contributions in taught sessions
- I have been able to access general IT resources when I needed to
- I have been able to access subject specific resources necessary for my studies
From the survey, areas to improve would be:
- Feeling part of a postgraduate student community
- Value for money from course
- Value for money from the University
- Support for language needs
Departments have been invited to participate in an action planning activity alongside their students. Action Plans will be one of a small number of core documents considered in autumn term Teaching Excellence Group (TEG) meetings with all academic departments.
