Professor Mike Shipman appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International)

Congratulations to Professor Mike Shipman who has been appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International). Mike will have responsibility for the academic leadership of the development and delivery of the international strategy in line with the University’s ambitions. He will begin his five-year term of appointment on 1 August 2019.

Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor said:

We have great ambitions to build partnerships in Europe, China and North America alongside our relationship with Monash, with education, research and mobility at the centre, and to have partnerships that bring people and ideas to us, as well as ours to them. Mike is incredibly well placed to do that, as an internationally leading scientist himself, and as someone who knows Warwick very well."

Mike is a Professor of Synthetic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. He served as Chair of the Faculty of Science from 2015-2018 and is the current Chair of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine. Mike served as Head of Department in Chemistry from 2010-2014 and has worked at the University of Warwick for the last 16 years.

Commenting on his appointment, Mike said:

I am really excited to be taking on this role. Our new International Strategy is highly ambitious, seeking to make a step change in our global reach and engagement. I look forward to working with staff and students from across the University to deliver it.”

The position has arisen because, at the end of his five-year term, Simon Swain will become Vice President of the British Academy, as previously reported. He will continue to lead for us in our relationships in the Midlands and the UK.

As a result of Professor Shipman’s appointment, a call for nominations/expressions of interest to fill the position of Chair of Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine from staff within the Faculty will be published on insite shortly.
