Coffee Roulette
Register now to meet colleagues from across Warwick.
In a recent survey, you asked for more opportunities to connect with colleagues from other departments and areas of Warwick.
In her Reflections on Friday, Rachel Sandby-Thomas suggested Coffee Roulette - a great way to meet different people within the University.
How does it work?
Whether you're working at home or on campus, you can join in Coffee Roulette. Once you register, you'll be randomly matched with a colleague at any level, from across the University.
All you need to do is complete a form to register your interest, and we'll send you an email to confirm your match. Then it's up to you to arrange a meeting (virtual or face-to-face) at a time and date that's suitable for you both.
LATEST DEADLINE FOR SIGNUPS is 4/10/24
The benefits
With hybrid working, keeping up the levels of networking to pre-covid times can be challenging. Coffee Roulette is a way to connect and collaborate with colleagues that you wouldn't normally work with in your role.
It's a chance to find out about different areas at Warwick, to share skills and experiences. Informal conversations may cover different topics from your career plans to your next holiday destination.

Here are some comments from Coffee Rouletters who took part in February:
It was good to meet someone from another department and discuss our work. It was a positive experience and gave me an excuse to try a new coffee shop on campus!
I thought our coffee roulette went very well. New to the university I was keen to know about his role, what he did etc. He's been working here for quite a long time so a good source of information.
It was good, we talked about our jobs and home life. It was nice to speak to someone at the University that I wouldn't normally encounter. I learnt about some of the challenges an academic faces.
We had a very good meeting and it was particularly useful for me as I'm new to the University and my Coffee Roulette partner has over 19 years experience! I think this is a very good initiative and we said we would meet again!
It was very informative. Working within Estates, I do not really find out much about what other people do.My Roulette partner was quite new to the Uni and very open to talk about her role and to ask about mine.
Worried about starting the conversation off? Here are some ice breakers...
- What do you like to do in your spare time? How do you recharge?
- Fill in the blank: If you really knew me, you'd know that I ...
- How would you describe your perfect day?
- What would you change on your first day, if you ruled the world?
- What would you do if you weren't in your current job
- What does a typical day look like for you? What do you like most about your job? What's the most challenging part of your job?
- What superpower would you like to have?
- If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what meal would you pick?
- What book or movie have you enjoyed recently and why?
- What’s one thing you wish you’d known when you started your career?

Once you have received confirmation of who you've been matched with, you can make arrangements to meet at a suitable time and place for you both. This could be virtually via Teams or at one of the many cafés around campus.
