20 Minutos: What is autophagy or 'self-eating' and how to activate it
Spanish news. A team of researchers from the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) has discovered how cells respond to fasting and activate the autophagy process. "Understanding the molecular mechanisms of activation of autophagy genes during fasting will help us use interventions to activate autophagic pathways to maintain normal body weight and promote healthy well-being," says lead author Professor Ioannis Nezis. COPE: mechanism in the SARS-CoV-2 corona that could help find new treatments
Researchers have detailed a mechanism in the distinctive crown of SARS-CoV-2 that could help scientists quickly find new treatments for the virus and quickly test whether existing treatments are likely to work with mutated versions as they are developed. The team, led by the University of Warwick, in the United Kingdom, as part of the EUTOPIA community of European universities, has simulated movements in almost 300 protein structures of the spike protein of the Covid-19 virus using computational modeling techniques, in an effort to help identify promising drug targets against the virus.
