Expert comment: Boeing's Starliner launch

Dr David Brown from the University of Warwick Astronomy and Astrophysics Group comments on today's planned launch of the Boeing Starliner capsule:-

“Boeing’s Starliner is one of two systems that NASA hopes will once more provide them with the capability to send their astronauts into low-Earth orbit from US launch sites.

"For Boeing this is an important test, as a successful demonstration would put them on equal footing with the other system, SpaceX’s Dragon, and on the verge of being able to start crewed flights in mid-2020.

"This launch is also important to NASA, as there have been significant delays to the Commercial Crew program, so a successful launch would be an indicator that the program is back on track, and that their investment has been worthwhile.”
