Place-based Research and Culture Funding Call - CLOSED

The Funding Call: *THIS CALL HAS NOW CLOSED*

As a pilot call, we may or may not run this again in the future and will update this page in due course, if we run the funding call again.

The place-based research & culture funding call aims to support Warwick researchers to work with cultural organisations, creatives, public and third sector organisations to co-create and deliver research and impact projects that address regional, local and community challenges. Projects funded via this call will contribute to Warwick’s new cultural strategy which aims to ‘inspire engagement with local and regional communities and their aspirations’.

Projects might also include the creation of new groups, networks, artistic outputs, events, workshops etc. Co-creation includes collaborative working, bringing together different perspectives, skillsets, and experiences, with everyone involved working together on an equal basis.

Ideas and Inspiration

If you need any inspiration please explore our place-based research pages where there are many projects of varying sizes with lots of examples of working with creatives, public sector and third sector organisations etc.

Our Projects | Place-based Research (warwick.ac.uk) and Artist-Researcher Collaborations (warwick.ac.uk) - in the context of this funding, ‘Acting on Climate’, ‘Arts and Homelessness’, ‘Policing Community and Culture’, ‘Grapevine and the University of Warwick’, Coventry Biennial, the Belgrade Theatre Project and Emerging from Lockdown are larger projects OR collections of multiple small projects that create a body of work/have been developed into a larger project overtime.

Coventry UK City of Culture Projects, Getting Creative with Sustainability Projects and individual Coventry Creates Projects would mostly fall into the smaller project fund.

Enhancing Research Culture Fund projects include some other excellent examples of working with creatives and/or communities and/or third/public sector organisations.

  • Application budgets should be fully costed, including UoW staff time. Please note that investigator time should not normally exceed 10%, and all claims for PI time must be accompanied by written approval from the Head(s) of Department. Requests exceeding 10% may be considered where there are compelling circumstances to justify increased PI time, and with a supporting statement from the HoD which confirms that the department is able to accommodate the higher proportion.
  • Project/research assistance/coordinator time can be charged up to 100%. If bidding for research assistants, applicants should clearly indicate what their work would include.
  • Directly incurred project costs, including travel, subsistence, artistic materials, meeting venues, catering, student ambassador support for events etc., may be claimed at 100% of the costs incurred.
