The Centre for Applied Health Research and Development (CAHRD)
CAHRD was established in 2011 by LSTM to expand interdisciplinary engagement in applied health research and has developed a funded strategic relationship between Warwick Medical School (WMS) and LSTM (see CAHRD website for more information).
Through this partnership a number of collaborations are developing. The focus is on improving the health of poor and vulnerable populations by conducting applied health research (comprising operational, implementation, and health systems and services research) and translating research into policy and practice, particularly in low and middle income countries.
In CAHRD at Warwick (WCAHRD), we have appointed a number of different applied health research specialist experts with an 80% or 100% commitment to the University of Warwick located in 3 schools/departments. The activities and momentum of WCAHRD are growing as we start to work jointly with LSTM.
We already undertake a great deal of applied health research in WMS and work extremely well across departments. Those of us in the Division of Health Sciences have applied health research links with Life sciences, WMG, the IDH, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, and Psychology and these could be thoroughly exploited for WCAHRD.
Internationally, CAHRD has excellent links in applied health research with Malawi (see the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust website), Kenya, Monash, Boston, South Africa, Sudan, Brazil and others.
