Technical Director of Research Computing
Dr Matthew Ismail appointed as Technical Director of Research Computing
Dr Matthew Ismail has been appointed to the new role of Technical Director of Research Computing. Matt will bring significant experience in managing high performance computing (HPC) architectures, including the EPSRC Tier 2 HPC facility “Sulis”, and a background in research to lead an enhanced, more strategic, visible and secure research computing provision to underpin the world class research at Warwick.
As Technical Director of Research Computing, Matt will collaborate with both the academic community and the Information and Digital Group (IDG) to ensure researchers have access to secure technologies that enable their research, both now and into the future.
Speaking about his appointment, Matt said: “I am looking forward to working with both the academic community and IDG to further the research computing provision available across campus. I am eager to collaborate with researchers to explore new and exciting advanced technologies which could help to achieve their research goals.”
Geraint Llewelyn, Director of IT said: “We are delighted to have someone with Matt’s vast experience in research computing in this post. His understanding of research and the academic community will be vital to providing a strategic approach to research computing at Warwick.”

Establishing this Research Computing Directorate will transform the way in which the University supports computational research at all levels and Matt has the ideal credentials to lead this activity.”
