Warwick Technicians meeting on Recruitment and Visibility.

Following a meeting with a group of Technicians across the science faculty on Friday, a number of subjects were raised and ideas put forward which we now want to discuss with a wider range of Technicians. We have split the subjects across two meetings so that we can spend more time on each topic.

The first meeting will be on Friday 30 October at 13:30 and the topics to be discussed are RECRUITMENT and VISIBILITY. If you are able to attend please email Technicians@warwick.ac.uk and we will send a calendar invite.

We would like you to come to the meeting with ideas on the following:

Recruitment

· Would we attract more applicants for jobs if we had an alternative name for a Technician? What might that be?

· How might Warwick’s recruitment process be improved to attract more applications for Technician roles?

· What role should Technicians take on interview panels?

· How can we promote the Technician Career Pathway in schools to attract school leavers?

· Do you have an experience of apprenticeships for Technicians and if so, what is your view of them?

Visibility

· Would you use a Technician Facebook page if we created one for Warwick Technicians? What sort of thing would you like to see on it and how would you use it?

· Is the work you do promoted within your department? How do people find out about what you do?

· Do Technicians have a slot on your All Staff Meeting or any other Department meeting?

· Would a ‘Technician of the Month’ award be of interest to you, or any other sort of award?

If you have any other ideas or suggestions on either of these topics please raise these at the meeting or alternatively email them in to Technicians@warwick.ac.uk.

Kind Regards,

The Technicians Commitment Steering Group.
