Ghisha Koenig

Born 1921, London. Died 1993

Ghisha Koenig studied at Hornsey School of Art from 1939-42 before joining the army. After the war, she was a pupil of Henry Moore at Chelsea School of Art in London from 1946-48 and then studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1948-49.

Her bronzes and terracottas of working people were included in group exhibitions such as Jewish Artists in England held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London in 1956 and the 10th Sculpture Biennale in Middleheim, Belgium in 1969. She exhibited with the Artists International Association and had a solo exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in London in 1986 and a memorial exhibition at the Boundary Gallery in London in 1994.

Her work is found in the collections of the Tate Gallery in London, Sheffield Art Galleries and Museums Trust, Manchester City Art Gallery and Stoke-on-Trent City Museum and Art Gallery.
