Ordinance on Emeritus Professors and Readers

Following approval of the Privy Council to transfer the awarding powers of the title of Emeritus Professor or Reader from the Council to the Senate, this ordinance will be reviewed with a view to implementation in 2010/11.

(1)    The Council may, on the recommendation of the Senate, confer the title Emeritus Professor on any Professor of the University after his/her retirement, or the title of Emeritus Reader on any Reader of the University after his/her retirement, in recognition of distinguished services to the University.

(2)    An Emeritus Professor shall be a Member of the University and on ceremonial occasions shall have the same privileges as a Professor of the University.
