Fire Response - Out-of-Hours
This procedure should be followed when responding to a fire alarm Out-of-Hours.
(1700hrs – 0830hrs Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday)
Outside reception manned hours and within the specified time that requires verification, ADT monitor the alarms and on receipt of an automated alarm will contact a key holder for confirmation of the status of the alarm prior to contacting the Fire and Rescue Service.
Procedure when arriving on site for Response Team Members:
1. Between 1700hrs and 2000hrs ring for a second person to assist. Between 2000hrs and 0700hrs await the arrival of, or locate the responding Fire and Rescue Service.
2. Contact the Main Campus Security Services (024765) 22222 and advise them you are investigating a fire alarm activation at HRI.
3. View the external mimic panel outside the Prince Philip building to ascertain the alarming system. (The alarm code opens the key box for access to the panel where there is fire system documentation available).
4. Ring Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Control if they have not responded on (01926 887434) to advise them that an automated alarm is being investigated and give the site details as:

CV35 9EF
5. In the absence of the Fire and Rescue Service Investigate the validity of the alarm signal by observing the exterior of the building and looking for signs of an incident.
6. If a fire is evident, confirm such to:
- Warwickshire FRS Control (999);
- ADT [ (9) 0844 8001999 – contract no 217134 ]; and
- Main Campus Security Service – (024765) 222222
7. If a fire is not evident, wait for a second person and when they arrive :
-
- Note the alarming zone and reference the zone drawing by the panel.
- See list of panels and note if the building is of a high risk.
- If deemed safe to do so, following the guidance on ‘How to Investigate’, enter the zone to investigate the situation. (A second person must be in attendance at this stage).
- If a fire is suspected, evacuate and confirm to:
- Warwickshire FRS Control (999);
- ADT [ (9) 0844 8001999 – contract no 217134 ]; and
- Main Campus Security Service – (024765) 222222
- If no fire is evident confirm this to
- Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Control (if they have not responded) on (01926 887434)
- ADT [ (9) 0844 8001999 – contract no 217134 ]
- Main Campus Security Services – (024765) 22222
8. In the event of problems with resetting the fire panel or needing to isolate a faulty zone in the absence of University technical staff, contact Honeywell to request service engineer’s assistance (details in Appendix B).
9. If the Fire and Rescue Service respond see guidance on re-occupation of the building.
10. File incident report to Health and Safety Department via online form.
