Compromised account process

Introduction

A compromised account is an IT account where an unauthorised person has or may have gained access and could use the account as if they were you.

This can happen if your login details (such as username, passwords or verification codes) are exposed, stolen, guessed, or obtained through methods such as phishing or social engineering.

  • Click a link or open an attachment in a phishing or scam message
  • Enter your credentials into a fake or malicious website
  • Reuse passwords across multiple services
  • Have malware or other malicious software present on your device
