Answers
Which browsers can I use?
The following browsers are supported by the currently deployed version of Cognos (10.1):
- Internet Explorer 7 & 8 (plus Internet Explorer 6 SP2, SP1 is not supported)
- Firefox 3.5 or newer
Although Internet Explorer 9 is not officially supported by Cognos, it has been tested and seems to work satisfactorily - with the caveat of running reports from links embedded in emails (see below). Safari, Chrome and Opera may also work although they have not been used during the development and testing of reports so "caveat emptor" applies. There are known issues with Safari on iPad.
I can't download files in Excel format
When running reports into an Excel format if the window does not appear or you are not prompted to save a file then the following points should be checked:
- Turn off any pop-up blockers (or allow warehouse.warwick.ac.uk) as a trusted site
- Add warehouse.warwick.ac.uk as a trusted site (Tools->Internet Options->Security)
- Modify the custom settings for the trusted sites zone to "Enable automatic prompting for file downloads" and "Enable file download"
Occasionally these settings may get reset (by a security policy update), so you may need to reset them to re-enable downloads into Excel(!)
I get an error trying to run a report from a link in an email
If you get an error that looks like the following when trying to run a report using Internet Explorer 8:
CM-REQ-4158 The search path "/content/folder[@na#e='folder']/report[@name='report'] is invalid
the following points should be checked:
- Add warehouse.warwick.ac.uk as a trusted site (Tools->Internet Options->Security)
- Modify the custom settings for the trusted sites zone to "Disable XSS filtering"
