Student Printing - Hardware and Software Refresh
1) All network printers within the ITS Workarea have been updated to the latest firmware revision for both the printer itself and the HP JetDirect card.
2) Both the GPAS and Novell iPrint software running upon the student print servers have been updated and patched to the latest level.
3) The drivers and associated driver profiles installed upon student workstations have been baselined to HP UPD 5.1 PCL5 and we have created specific driver profiles for each device.
4) The configuration of all printers has been baselined and any legacy protocols have been turned off.
5) 8x new printers have been deployed across campus and have replaced the legacy Xerox Colour Printers. This has created an all HP estate.
6) An additional colour A3 laser printer has also been installed within the Learning Grid.
7) All printers are in the process of being asset tagged and re-labelled to make identification of the print queues far simpler.
8) Wireless Network Printing has been implemented and is scheduled for release to all Staff and Student customers by the end of this month. http://go/wirelessprint can be accessed for the latest information on this.
9) The ITS Helpdesk have been equipped with the HP WebJetadmin tool allowing them to remotely monitor and restart printers when issues are identified, thus helping to reduce downtime.
10) Pilot environments of HP MFP's equipped with "Pull Print" capability are currently underway to provide a long term software and hardware solution for the future of the Student Network Printing Service.
11) A large consumable purchasing campaign has been conducted over the summer to ensure that all printers have immediate access to the paper, toner and maintenance kits they require to ensure continued operation.
12) All network printers are physically checked a minimum of once a day for paper jams, toner, paper and maintenance kit levels. Additionally print queues are remotely monitored throughout the day to clear any backlogged or frozen jobs.
13) An updated software build has been deployed to all workstations which provides a Printer Credit Utility, updated iPrint client, unified driver and shortened print queue names.
