In order to perform essential maintenance on Web Sign-on, Webgroups and
External users', we will be migrating the application to a server in a
different datacentre on Wednesday 27th August.
We will use a phased approach and the actual times for moving each
application are as follows:
* 10am: Web sign-on (websignon.warwick.ac.uk)
* 10:30am: Shibboleth IdP (idp.warwick.ac.uk)
* 11am: Webgroups
* 11:30am: External Users
*We do not expect this to cause any downtime* on Web sign-on, Webgroups or
External Users', as the other server runs as a "hot standby"; you should not
notice any change in the behaviour of any of these applications. These
applications should be considered*At Risk*.
As part of this change, we will be upgrading the version of Apache that
each application runs behind and the SSL configuration toa more up-to-date
and secure configuration
.*There is a very small chance that if you are running an application on
very old or unsupported software, such as Java 1.4, it will not be able to
communicate with websignon.warwick.ac.uk over HTTPS*.
We have been running the new configuration on our test server,
websignon-test.warwick.ac.uk, for the past few months without incident. It
is highly recommended that you test your applications against the test
server at some point between now and the change taking place if you are
worried about it running on very old software.
This maintenance is being undertaken in line with the IT Services Change
Management process. The dates outlined above are indicative and awaiting
confirmation.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reply to this
topic or to email webteam@warwick.ac.uk
