Connecting Off-Campus using the VPN Service
The VPN (Virtual Private Network) Service provides a secure method to connect to the University campus network regardless of where you are connecting from. This does not give you the full functionality you would have if you were connected on campus, but it does provide a secure connection for Remote Desktop, Software Center and receiving other changes from IT Services. Please note that performance will be determined by your local connection.
Important: Any work that you save to your laptop will be stored locally and may be lost if the laptop has a catastrophic hardware failure or is lost or stolen. It is important that you make a backup whenever you work on a document without a network connection. (You could save to your OneDrive for business account or you could even create a second folder on the C: drive and make a copy of your data there).
Please Note: The VPN is now an opt-in service and you need to log a Service Request with the IT Services Helpdesk in order to get access to the VPN. To do this give them a call on 73737. For more information regarding the VPN service see here.
To connect using the VPN:
- Go to start/Programs/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
- Click the "Connect" tab.
- Enter your Username and Password. This will be the same Username and Password that you used to login to the laptop and click "OK".
A new window will open asking you to confirm your authorization.
- Click "Accept".
Once the green tick has appeared the VPN is configured and ready for use.
