Senior Leaders Workshops

Senior Leaders’ Workshops

Our Senior Leaders Workshops are co-designed with you to ensure we are enabling you to solve real leadership problems, providing practical and usable models and advice.

Over recent months, you’ve provided feedback that our first workshop should provide support with dealing constructively with conflict.

With this in mind, we are delighted to share that we are launching our first workshop for our established senior academic leaders at Warwick, working with an external organisation, ‘Common Purpose’.

Although this workshop has been designed for our academic leaders, other leaders in FA09 roles may also find this workshop beneficial.

About the Workshop

Dealing Constructively with Conflict.

In the context of internal change and transformation and an external societal, economic and, sometimes, political environment, Higher Education institutions and their diverse people will inevitably encounter conflict. How can academic leaders and managers develop and practise the right skills and behaviours to deal constructively with conflict – both within and across faculty boundaries.

The workshop will draw on Common Purpose’s cross-boundary thought leadership and experiential approach, which includes insights from senior leaders from outside of the university, as well as tools and practices specifically focused on:

• Active listening and effective questioning

• Challenging Assumptions

In doing so, we aim to:

• Better support colleagues with articulating and asserting their rights and responsibilities and equip them to respectively push back and challenge others.

• Embed a positive mindset towards conflict, prioritising common purpose and positive relationships when navigating complex and detailed situations or programmes of work.

• Reduce challenge and conflict: Anticipate areas of challenge from others and mitigate where appropriate.

This workshop will run twice, a full-day in-person workshop on Thursday 15 February, with a condensed half-day, online workshop on Wednesday 28 February.

About Common Purpose

Common Purpose is a global not-for-profit devoted to developing leaders who can cross boundaries – between geographies, generations, sectors, specializations, backgrounds and beliefs. For the past 30 years, we have worked with thousands of organizations to deliver on this purpose – developing leaders with the skills to solve complex problems – both at work and in society.

They bring deep expertise in cross-boundary leadership development, with a unique experiential ‘outside-in’ approach to learning that is underpinned by their thought leadership. In addition, they draw on over 15 years’ experience and knowledge from working with the Higher Education sector, both with students, professionals and academic leaders at all levels.
