At Warwick, we want every student to feel supported throughout their university journey.
That's why we're launching our new Student Wellbeing Strategy for 2030, designed to make support easier to access, better connected, and available when you need it.
Our vision is simple:
Start Well
Get the information, support and connections you need from the very beginning of your Warwick experience.
Stay Well
Access the right support at the right time to help you manage challenges, maintain your wellbeing and thrive as part of our community.
Succeed Well
Feel empowered to achieve your academic, personal and professional goals with support that recognises your individual needs.
What's changing?
We're making it easier for you to find support, understand your options, and get help when you need it.
More accessible support
Our refreshed approach aims to provide access to wellbeing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through a range of channels, including:
Digital support platforms
Telephone support
Overnight practitioner support during term time
Wellbeing practitioners embedded across the University
Support starts wherever you are
Whether you speak to a personal tutor, accommodation staff, the Students' Union, Community Safety, a wellbeing practitioner or another member of staff, we'll help connect you to the right support.
Earlier intervention
We're strengthening our approach to prevention and early support so that students can access help before problems become crises.
Better connected services
We're working towards a more joined-up wellbeing system, reducing the need to navigate multiple services and making your support journey simpler and more consistent.
Support is everyone's responsibility
Student wellbeing is not delivered by one team alone. Our new wellbeing model will bring together the people, services and communities that help students thrive.
Your Academic Community
Personal Tutors, Academic Supervisors, Departments and teaching staff, Student representatives and peer networks.
Your Residential Community
Residential Community Team, Accommodation staff, Community Safety, Report + Support and Peer networks in residences.
Professional Wellbeing Services
Counselling and Psychological Services, Mental Health Practitioners, Disability Services, Safeguarding professionals, Crisis and urgent support services and Digital wellbeing support.
Your Student Community
Warwick Students' Union, Sports clubs and societies, Peer support networks, Faith and chaplaincy support and Student-led wellbeing initiatives.
External Support
Where needed, we work closely with:
NHS services
Mental health and crisis services
Local safeguarding partners
Community organisations
Why are we doing this?
Across higher education, more students are seeking support for wellbeing, mental health, disability, safeguarding and complex personal circumstances.
As a university, we are investing in our buildings and our environment alongside our wellbeing services. Wellbeing is shaped by the entirety of the university experience: academic life, community, relationships, accommodation, safety, inclusion, culture and accessibility.
We’re adapting our services to ensure they remain accessible, inclusive, responsive, effective and sustainable.
This helps us to meet the needs of our students now and in the future. Our goal is to ensure every student can access appropriate support at the right time, in a way that works for them.
“Student wellbeing needs have become more prevalent, complex and visible. It is our ambition to move beyond fragmented or reactive approaches towards a more connected, accessible and prevention-focused service. This approach will help us to build on our service, to ensure we meet the needs of our students now and in the future, providing services and support as early as we can to those who are struggling and also those in crisis.”
- Andy Smith, Director of Wellbeing and Safeguarding
Looking ahead
The Student Wellbeing Strategy is a long-term commitment from now until 2030.
During the coming years, we aim to:
Provide 24/7 access to support
Expand preventative wellbeing initiatives
Strengthen community-based support
Improve digital wellbeing services
Develop more connected support pathways
Learn from student feedback and evidence
This work will evolve, but our commitment remains the same: putting student wellbeing, safety and success at the heart of everything we do.
