Sophie studied saxophone at Trinity College of Music, where she was a scholarship student and the first sax player ever to reach the final of the Trinity Soloists’ Competition. Since then she has enjoyed a varied career of teaching and performing a great mix of musical styles around the UK and in the USA, where she lived for several years. Particular highlights for her have been the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her quirky quartet ‘Sax Collective’, a solo in the Royal Albert Hall to an audience of over 4000 school children, and bringing music to residents of local care homes. Sophie now has three young children and has the joy of encouraging them in their musical journey, as well as leading Music Bugs classes for babies and toddlers. She loves sharing her music with anyone from 0 to 100!
Susie studied piano and violin at the Junior Department of the Birmingham Conservatoire from the ages of 11-18 before studying Music and English at the University of Durham, where she was awarded a music scholarship and the Durham University award for excellence in music. Since then, she has enjoyed teaching piano to a variety of ages and taking opportunities to play and accompany wherever they arise! She now has four young children and is enjoying encouraging their own experience of music alongside her own.
The saxophone is one of the most versatile instruments around, so expect to be 'blown away' by all it can do! From mesmerising melodies to toe-tapping fun, soothing lullabies to flurries of virtuosity, this concert will show off the beauty and range of this fantastic instrument through an eclectic mix of styles.
