Overview:

Open Access is changing the face of academic publishing and transforming the way the academic community shares and disseminates research.

To help researchers at Warwick negotiate this changing landscape, the Library has created a collection of online resources and webinars, which explore the benefits and challenges of Open Access, as well as providing practical advice on finding and using Open Access materials and making your own research outputs openly accessible.

This online session will allow participants to explore the concept of Open Access and the potential benefits and challenges it offers to individual researcher, the academic community and to wider society.

Who should attend?
University of Warwick Research Active Staff (staff on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research and Teaching contracts) and Postgraduate Researchers.

Workshop enables Research Active Staff (RAS) to:

• Explore the concept of Open Access and its influence on the current publishing landscape
• Identify some of the benefits and challenges Open Access presents to you as a researcher
• Reflect on the external drivers which might encourage or discourage you from publishing your own work openly
• Consider how the move towards greater openness might change the way you share and disseminate your research

Workshop Pre-work:
This webinar will provide particpants with an opportunity to discuss the issues covered in the Understanding Open Access Moodle course and consider how these impact on their own research practices. In order to fully participate you will be encouraged to engage with the relevant section(s) of the online course prior to the webinar. A link to any recommended reading will be circulated at least one week in advance.
