We have positioned our memberships to be competitively priced and this has been informed by extensive market and competitor research for comparable facilities including university and private sector providers.

Whilst price increases are not welcomed, we must ensure that we can operate sustainably in order to continue to provide the breadth of activity, services, and facilities that are valued by our members, including our free of charge programmes which gives students access to over 50 free sessions per week:

  • Rock Up and Play – 51 sessions per week (term time – timetable is reduced in vacation)
  • Running/Walking Groups – 11 sessions per week
  • Activity Zone – free to use area, with classes in the summer that are free.

Is there a student discount on memberships at the Sports and Wellness Hub?

We are pleased to offer our student members significantly discounted rates compared to community members. For example, the community Inclusive membership is £495 for 12 months – the equivalent student price just £299, representing a 40% discount.

Students will also enjoy access to lower price memberships such as Swim, Sauna & Steam and Racquets.

Why does the Inclusive Membership only include off peak climbing?

The success of the Inclusive membership, launched in August 2018, has been unprecedented and this has placed additional demands on the capacity of the climbing centre, which like other sports spaces is limited by capacity.

Therefore, we are protecting peak time to ensure that our climbing members have the opportunity to climb at both peak and off-peak times. This will also ensure that we don’t have capacity issues that will impact the health and safety of our customers and their enjoyment of the climbing centre.

What if I want to climb at peak hours?

You have the option to take out a climbing membership which will give you full access to the climbing walls. If you would like to use other facilities, in addition to the climbing centre, please talk to our friendly team who can work out the best options for you depending on your usage.

Inclusive members will benefit from a discounted Pay & Play rate of £6 compared to the normal £9.

Why does the climbing centre open at 09:30 rather than at 06:00 when the Sports Hub opens?

We undertook a review of footfall at the climbing wall earlier this year to inform opening hours. Our review concluded that by reducing the opening hours for weekday mornings and weekend evenings, this would allow for a more effective deployment of skilled climbing staff during busier periods.

This in turn would enable the overseeing of safe practices including the teaching sessions delivered by the clubs, qualified staff watching and assisting fall catching on lead sessions and having a staff overlap for health and safety.

We continue to monitor demand and will review our opening hours accordingly.

What do I need to do before I’m able to climb at the Sports and Wellness Hub?

All climbers, from beginners to elite, will need to register and complete a climbing waiver before being able to climb in the Sports & Wellness Hub. The registration process is as follows:

Once you’ve completed the registration process, you are ready to climb.

I’m not happy with the price increase, what are my options?

  • If you have an annual membership, normal cancellation Terms & Conditions apply
  • Pay & Play options and bundles are available for casual use of the facilities

I’m not sure what my membership includes – where can I find out?

You can view a full list of our membership options and what each include.

What should I do if I want to change my membership?

If you would like to switch to one of our other memberships, please email our Memberships Team on sportmemberships@warwick.ac.uk or alternatively visit us at the Sports Hub to discuss with our friendly team. For our cancellation policy, please refer to our terms & conditions .

Will I get more access for facilities now that they are bigger?

Yes, we are taking steps to ensure that all of our users can access the facilities they want as much as possible, including having dedicated lane swimming for 95% of our pool opening hours and protecting sports hall and court space for casual and member bookings. We are also expanding our fitness class provision, offering users over 100 classes per week including Les Mills Virtual Reality.

How do I get to the Sports and Wellness Hub?

  1. Walk: You can walk or cycle to the Sports and Wellness Hub via the new Spine Route directly from Gibbet Hill Road. This route widens and improves the existing path to Lakeside Village and extends to the Sports Hub entrance.
  2. Cycle: In addition to using the new Spine Route above, Unicycles are also a good option for reaching the Sports Hub. Available across campus, the campus bike hire scheme also now has a new docking station at the Sports Hub.
  3. Shuttlebus: There is a new shuttlebus stop at the Sports Hub. Routes will connect with Gibbet Hill, Central Campus and Westwood. View routes and timetables .
  4. Driving : All vehicle access to the Sports Hub car park is via Bluebell roundabout and Leighfield Road. There is a Pay & Display car park on site at the Sports and Wellness Hub which all customers have the opportunity to use, however please note that charges will apply. University of Warwick issued PGR parking permits are not valid in this car park; however, a new permit holder, Pay and Display and Flexipay scratchcard car park is now open in Cryfield Village across the road from the Sports and Wellness Hub.

Why are University parking permits not valid in the Sports & Wellness Hub car park?

The University is limited on the amount of car parking that can be made available for use by staff and students on campus; the purpose of the dedicated car park at the new Sports and Wellness Hub is for users to access the facility for relatively short bursts of time throughout the day.

It is therefore not a standard all day permit car park like other sites on campus. However, as mentioned above the new Cryfield Village car park is available for permit holders and for pay & display users and forms part of the overall parking provision for campus.

Why will parking be free for community members at the Sports & Wellness Hub?

Parking is free for community members for up to four hours only and it forms part of the Community membership which is more expensive.

Why is parking not free for student members at the Sports Hub?

University of Warwick students are offered a subsidised price for their membership at the Sports and Wellness Hub. Staff and students already have options for parking on campus including the new Cryfield Village car park, which will soon be opening across the road from the Sports & Wellness Hub and is available for permit holders and pay & display users.

How much does it cost to park on-site at the Sports and Wellness Hub?

An example of our standard Pay and Display charges are:

  • £1.20 for 1 hour (free for community members)
  • £2.40 for 2 hours (free for community members)
  • £3.60 for 3 hours (free for community members)
  • £4.80 for 4 hours (free for community members)
  • £2.40 for each additional hour after

You will then be required to pay on exit at the machines at the prevailing rate. At the machine, you will be prompted to enter your vehicle registration, and you will then see the camera photo of your vehicle as it entered the car park before being asked to confirm your car.

How does the parking system work?

The Sports and Wellness Hub car park uses a ticketless car parking system using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) software.

Should you wish to use the on-site car park, after your visit you will be required to pay on exit at the Pay machines at the prevailing rate. At the machine, you will be prompted to enter your vehicle registration, and will then see the camera photo of the vehicle as it entered the car park, and be asked to confirm your car.

Can I park for free in the evenings and weekends like other University managed car parks on campus?

No, the car park is managed by ParkingEye Ltd T/a Car Parking Partnership (CPP) on behalf of The University of Warwick so there are different terms and conditions in place for accessing the car park. As such, the parking charges as shown above will also apply on evenings and on weekends.

What are the opening hours for the Sports and Wellness Hub?

Student members will be able to enjoy longer opening hours at the Sports and Wellness Hub, between 6am – 11pm Monday – Friday and 7am – 8pm Saturday –Sunday. This is a response to feedback that students would like to access the facilities when they need to. The Sports Hub will be open over 500 hours a year more than the existing provision.

Is the Sports and Wellness Hub part of the UNIversal Gym Scheme?

Yes. The University is part of the HE UNIversal Gym Scheme which means that our students who have a Warwick Sport Gym or Inclusive membership are entitled to use the University Gym facilities in their home town as part of their membership if their home University is signed up to the scheme. Click here to see which Universities participate in the scheme.

Please note, UNIversal Gym Cards from Coventry University may not be used at the Sports and Wellness Hub due to the close proximity of the two institutions and potential capacity issues – an arrangement that Coventry University is aware of.

How do I join a sports club?

Full details of the Sports Club joining process are on the Student Union website. Warwick Sport works in partnership with the Student Union to support Sports Clubs, so your joining fee paid to the SU will cover your access to training and playing facilities provided by Warwick Sport, as well as Club Development support.

How much does it cost to join a sports club?

The Student Union are looking at offering a single product to join a sports club, which wraps up the sports federation fee and individual club fee, and Club Pass (all of which are paid for separately currently), which will be administered and paid directly through the Student Union.

The cost will be as follows:

  • Warwick Sport Club Pass: £56.50
  • Students’ Union Sports Federation Fee: £32
  • Sports Club joining fee: £6 (this is per club you want to join)

What does the Club Pass contribute to?

The Club Pass element of the Sports Club fee contributes to:

  • Funding the Club Development programme, which includes a grant to the Student Union towards BUCS
  • Contribution to accessing the facilities at Warwick Sport for training and matches
  • Personalised support from the dedicated Warwick Sport Club Development team.

Why is the Club Pass no longer discounted from a Warwick Sport membership?

In 2018/19, if a student purchased a Warwick Sport membership, the Club Pass amount was discounted from the membership price. Unfortunately, it is no longer sustainable for the Club Pass to be discounted from a Warwick Sport membership product.

Warwick is also committed to equality and fairness in sport and the discount offered in 18/19 didn’t give parity between club and non-club members.

Will sports clubs get more time at the Sports and Wellness Hub given the facility is bigger?

No. Sports club time has already been agreed and retained for the new Sports and Wellness Hub for 19/20, however there will be a slight increase in overall allocation to support the demand of our clubs.

Although the facilities are bigger, the space at the Sports and Wellness Hub also needs to accommodate many other user groups including other student non-club users, staff users, community users and pay and play usage.
