English Language Requirements
All applicants, regardless of their visa requirements, are required to show that their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English is sufficiently high for them to derive full benefit from their degree course. The level of competence required depends on what type of degree you wish to study. Many applicants can demonstrate this through a satisfactory level of achievement in their academic examinations. For those who need to provide a separate qualification, the University will consider a variety of English Language tests. A full list is available on either the undergraduate or Postgraduate links below.
The University of Warwick requires that your English Language capability is of a level that will enable you to succeed on your chosen course of study. Waiting for test results
If you do not have your English language test results when you are applying to study at Warwick, you can send these in later. Please indicate on your application form when you took or expect to take the English language test and when you expect to receive your test results. You can provide the results to us once you have them.
Please note that in some cases students may be eligible to attend pre-sessional English courses instead of or in addition to an English Language qualification. For some courses, an English language result may be required when submitting your application.
Pre-sessional English Programme
Our range of Pre-Sessional English Programmes prepare students for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate university study by developing their academic English and study skills. The courses are for students whose first language is not English and who have an offer to study for a degree at the University of Warwick, which is conditional on meeting the English language requirements. The Pre-Sessional English courses focus on the specific academic language and study skills that you will need in order to follow and engage in your future degree subject.
There is no formal award for these courses - successful completion of the course will allow you to meet the English language condition of your offer.
The entry requirements for the Pre-Sessional course will depend upon which Pre-Sessional course you are applying to, as well as which degree course you will be studying at Warwick and what the English language requirement for this course is (Band A, B, or C).
