Healthcare with the NHS

Accessing NHS healthcare starts with a current registration with a primary care doctor called a General Practitioner (GP). Therefore it is important that, whilst you are at University, you are registered with a GP practice which covers the area where you live.
So:

- if you are new to the University and living on campus you should register with a GP practice at the University Health Centre as soon as possible. You must not wait until you are ill as you could experience problems getting an appointment with a doctor

- if you are new to the University and living off campus you should register with a GP practice covering your area. The University Health Centre covers southwest Coventry so go in to the Health Centre and check if you are unsure as to whether you are eligible to register there.

- If you have changed your address since you registered with the University Health Centre it is important that you tell the Health Centre, otherwise the Health Authority may take you off their lists - this happens frequently! The University cannot tell the Health Centre your new or changed address.

- if you are living in Leamington Spa you cannot be registered at the University Health Centre and again you will be taken off their lists. So it is important you find a GP practice in Leamington as soon as possible - do not wait until you are ill as you will have difficulty getting an appointment with a GP
