Discover Benas' journey at Warwick and what led them to apply for BSc Cyber Security. |
How did you find out about Warwick?
I accidentally stumbled upon Warwick's Cyber Security course page on UCAS and decided to look into it further.
Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?
I chose Warwick, because it has an outstanding Cyber Security course which is distinguished internationally. Not to mention the University facilities and opportunities for students.
How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?
I couldn't believe it, to be honest. Felt very surreal.
Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?
When I found out, I was on a camping trip with my friends, so they were probably the first people that I told. It was great, everyone was really happy and we ended up having a small celebration in the evening!
How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?
Personally, the application process was really smooth. I applied online for the Visa and the scholarship. The instructions were all straight forward and I managed to get my visa within 2 or 3 weeks time.
What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?
Just how big the campus is. There are so many various facilities for lectures, leisure activities, entertainment , etc. Again, it sort of, felt surreal that it was all happening.
What is the best thing about Warwick?
Sport facilities and educational resources. Since I enjoy doing sports, the variety of activities and sports you can participate in is great.
In addition the educational resources provided by the university, such as software and IT tools, are beyond anything that I was expecting. How is your accommodation?
It's on campus and again, it's great. Very happy with my choice as my flatmates are great and the rooms are fantastic as well.
Are you a member of any societies?
Haven't had the chance to join any officially yet. But I've made a lot of friends during circling and other activities.
What are your plans when you graduate?
Either pursue my master's degree or try to get my first job within the industry.
What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?
Be confident. Outline your academic strengths but also be sure to mention what you enjoy doing on your free time: hobbies, sports, etc. It's important to be a well-rounded individual.
What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?
The people and new friends that I've made. All of them are just phenomenal.
Benas' course:
BSc Cyber Security seeks to enable the good and prevent the bad in cyber space. For you to contribute to this task, you will learn a broad range of theory and practice. Most things will be viewed from two perspectives: what should happen, and what does happen. Many cyber security challenges lurk in this gap between concept and reality.
The course has a strong technical focus so that you understand precisely how the digital parts of cyber systems function. However, the role played by people, processes and the physical environment in achieving cyber security is also a critical part of your study. Taken together, you will learn how to harden the security posture of an organisation's cyber systems. You will learn how to think and act coherently in cyber space.
