How did you find out about Warwick?

I heard about the University of Warwick through my UK counselor, ATEC.

Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

First of all, I really liked how Warwick climbed through the rankings year by year in both business and general. I was impressed by its development and progressing reputation. Furthermore, I never saw a campus like this in any other school in the UK. Lastly, I firmed this school because I had the opportunity to receive a scholarship, which is a rare opportunity in the UK, and I have zero regrets.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

It felt excellent. I applied to more than 25 schools around the world but due to the economic situation of Turkey tuition fees became my number one problem. Due to Covid, most of the schools decreased the funding for international students and made it really hard to get a scholarship. Thus, the moment I learned about my scholarship was one of the happiest moments of my life as I took a big burden off my parents' shoulders.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

The first person I called was my father. The day before I heard about the scholarship, he was having trouble trying to find the money (tuition fee for the whole year) for the visa application and it was actually the first time he expressed his financial concerns. After I talked to him the day before my scholarship letter came, I felt really bad because I thought I was putting my parents in this position. So when I told them I got the scholarship they were thrilled and relieved.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

I learned about the scholarship opportunity through my counselor. So we worked on the application together. They also helped me through my visa application process and fortunately, we did not have any issues.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

Surprised, because I did not know that the campus was this big.

What is the best thing about Warwick?

The campus.

What is the worst thing?

Online lectures.

How is your accommodation?

I stay in Arthur Vick. I really like my room and my kitchen. It is very comfortable so during weekdays I spend most of my time in my room. I also like how most of the popular places on campus are close to my dorm.

Are you a member of any societies?

I became a member of the WBS society and right now I am applying for certain exec positions. Besides the application process and the "meet the execs" activities, I did not have a chance to go to any events.

What are your plans when you graduate?

I hope to stay and work in the UK. I am definitely going to do a placement year and I hope I can get a job offer from there and start working as soon as I graduate.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

My first piece of advice would be talking about the non-academic stuff because the school already sees all your grades and your academic interest in your application and personal statement. Thus, I would say talk about your extracurricular interests, passions, and future plans. Furthermore, I would say that linking your future goals to the extracurriculars you did in high school is a great way to show the school you are really interested in developing in your area of interest. Lastly, talk about how the scholarship will help you and be specific. Focus on how you will benefit from the scholarship besides the financial part.

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

That I am getting a world-class education in the area I am most passionate about.
