Discover Mikaeel's journey at Warwick and what led them to apply for the LLB Law.

How did you find out about Warwick?

I stumbled on the name of this august intuition due to a combination of two factors. The first one being a general research on the best Law Schools in the United Kingdom and the name of 'Warwick Law School' was up there. The second factor was a positive recommendation from a close family friend's son who had just passed out of Warwick Law School as well.

Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

I believe in a life which follows 'The Principle of Balance' and the university of Warwick encompasses this aspect perfectly. The university has a perfect balance of social life as well, where the worlds' central hub, i.e, London is just a couple of hours away by train. The university balances this out with its never ending paradise of solitude which is its dearest campus. Thus, Warwick was the one that had an edge over the other universities.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

To be awarded a scholarship in the United Kingdom, which is so academically driven/oriented, I feel proud and honoured. To have earned such a hefty amount of 13,000 Pounds, I felt a sense of relief too as a huge financial burden was reduced. To get this scholarship, made me feel like I had already achieved something before university had even started and instilled in me a drive/ motivation to do much better in university.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

The day I received the email, I was in my father's office and when I showed him the email, his eyes lit up in pride and excitement, which made me realise what I had truly accomplished.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

When I heard about the applications, I had my eyes fixed on any sort of scholarship. Every penny saved is every penny earned and I knew I had to get at least the 2,000 pound scholarship. I just informed my parents that I would be submitting this form and never took any support as I wanted to feel like I earned the scholarship solely on my own efforts. I sat in peace on my terrace at night, wrote an outline and on the following day, I formatted it and submitted it without over thinking. I was confident as I knew the piece was authentic, came from my heart and had enough merit.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

When the car entered the campus gates, I was mesmerised and I knew I had found my second home. The campus was filled with lush green grass and tress and in the air one could sense nothing but peace and positivity. It even felt like the old and new architectural masterpieces were smiling at you. The campus was majestic and grand, much better than what had been depicted on online sites and articles.

How is your accommodation?

From the cheapest to the most expensive, the accommodations at Warwick are safe, accessible and the hygiene levels are top notch. Each accommodation has its perks and as I stayed at Rootes (on Campus), it was the most social, vibrant and centrally located. Although the bathrooms were shared, they were cleaned daily by the stellar cleaning staff.

Are you a member of any societies?

I am a member of Warwick India Forum, Warwick Writing Society, Warwick Bar Society, Warwick Law Society, Warwick Indian Society, Raise and Give (RAG) etc. I am an executive team member at Warwick India Forum in the operations department. I have helped the forum organise multiple socials and fundraisers.

What are your plans when you graduate?

Although I have certain goals in mind, I want to head into university with an open mind, ready to learn and adapt to all aspects of the subject I am studying, i.e Law.

I do hope that after I graduate I can be a barrister at the Courts of the United Kingdom, and also complete a conversion course in India so I can be qualified to practice in both jurisdictions. This will allow me to attain the status of an 'international lawyer"

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

My advice to someone applying for the Global Excellency Scholarship is:

Be authentic and honest

Be focused and showcase merit

Submit YOUR story and YOUR work.

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

The friends who have attained a family status along with the never ending paradise of solitude, i.e the campus is that makes me happy at Warwick.
