How did you find out about Warwick?

Warwick is a well known University. When I started researching for my university choices, the University of Warwick was usually in the top ten of multiple university rankings. Word of mouth also confirmed the quality of the university.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

I was both ecstatic and relieved when I realised that I had received a scholarship. Ecstatic because I was excited to start the next chapter of my life in a good university, excited to start my course and meet new people with similar and different interests. Relieved because it elevated a lot of financial burden, it meant I didn't have to worry too much the fees and the finances required to study and live in the UK as an international student.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

My dad, he was excited and proud of me. It relieved a lot of stress off of him as well and it gave us both a reassurance that I would be able to attend a good university where I was guaranteed high quality education and lots of opportunity.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

Walking through Warwick gave me multiple feelings. I felt impressed by the architecture and the infrastructure at the university. It also increased my excitement and reassured me about the quality of this university. Seeing all the different departments and the many social spaces around the campus made me look forward to starting the course and becoming a part of the Warwick community.

What is the best thing about Warwick?

The people. Everywhere, in the many different departments, in the societies and the administration. The university full of passionate and kind people. It helps you settle in quickly so that you feel at home as fast as possible.

What is the worst thing?

I would have preferred to have more in-person, contact teaching, but understandably because of COVID-19 it has been difficult sometimes with online teaching.

How is your accommodation?

The accommodation is well managed, if there is a problem there is always someone you could reach out to and more often than not, the problem is quickly resolved. I live in Tocil which is on campus.

Are you a member of any societies? If so, what have you done with them?

I have joined multiple societies. Firstly, the Physics society which helps with multiple things. It's the place to find like-minded people, they help with navigating your future as a physicist (and they provide free pizza!). The Islamic Society has been helpful in making me feel at home in the university, their events are always engaging and fun. I have also joined Cobalt Magazine, Warwick Careers Society and Warwick EQ Society.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

Honesty. The questions have been structured in a way that lets you express honestly your reasons for studying your subject, your reasons for needing/wanting a scholarship. Be yourself, don't stress too much about the language, try your best to express yourself and show your personality by answering the questions in an authentic way.

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

The nature around campus.
