How did you find out about Warwick?
When researching for universities in the UK I came across University of Warwick in the league tables and decided to read about it in full.
Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?
The Mathematics and Statistics department of the University of Warwick is world renowned and I knew that choosing Warwick over other universities in the world would be a great step towards my future, or rather the first stepping stone.
How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?
I was extremely honoured to have been awarded the scholarship. It was a moment of great pride and I was beyond ecstatic to say the least.
Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?
The first person I told about my scholarship was my mother. She was filled with joy and was extremely grateful for the new journey that I would embark upon once at university.
How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?
I applied on my own through UCAS. I did have some help from school teachers for my college application but filled the visa one out myself. There were no difficulties.
What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?
Warwick is the perfect blend of a calm, peaceful and a very connected to nature sort of environment owing to the geese, squirrels, lush greenery, lakes etc as well as high performance technology and equipment and modern buildings and architecture and that allow us to have the best of both worlds.
What is the best thing about Warwick?
I think we have a beautiful campus with remarkable infrastructure, facilities and resources and extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and intelligent professors who ask us to challenge every idea at every step and focus so much on development of skills. On most days I feel like I'm training my brain to think differently and that facilitates my personal growth. Being in an environment like this has always uplifted me because I realize I have so much to work with and that I have the power and potential to truly make a difference.
What is the worst thing?
Unfortunately, its the weather.
How is your accommodation?
I live in Bluebell which is an en suite on campus accommodation. It was my first choice and I was very grateful that I got it. It is located close to central campus, which is where most of my classes take place. I quite like it.
Are you a member of any societies? If so, what have you done with them?
I am a member of Warwick Women's Careers Society, Warwick Statistics Society, and Warwick Indian Society to name a few. I have applied for executive roles at a few societies and hope to be more actively involved in them as my time at university goes by. These societies set up mentorship schemes, organize talks, hold summits, and have their members engage in so many other activities that facilitate learning, development, and growth.
What are your plans when you graduate?
The ultimate goal is to make an income while making an impact. I am currently exploring my options in all fields but feel most drawn towards quantitative finance.
I want to be able to apply my mathematical and statistical knowledge to real-life cases and devise models to help firms make better-informed financial and business decisions when it comes to pricing, investment and so on. I want to put myself and the companies I work for on the global map through the advancements I hope to make in the fields of machine learning, AI etc.
What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?
Just be yourself. Less is more.
What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?
As I mentioned before, the kind of environment created here is one that allows like minded people to come together and share their interests, ideas, goals, ambitions, and achievements which creates a hub for learning, growing, sharing and development. One of the main reasons I applied to university is to experience this and I'm extremely pleased to be doing so.
