How did you find out about Warwick?

Ever since the beginning of our IB programme, school counsellors were guiding us with the selection of universities worldwide. Being keen to pursue higher education in UK, the counsellors and my seniors strongly recommended applying to Warwick with an advice to make it a Firm choice, if I receive an offer. I have met few students from India who are currently in their second year at Warwick and some who are alumni. They were very satisfied with the course and their experience at Warwick. After listening to their positive feedback, I was convinced that Warwick would definitely be an excellent option for my higher education.

Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

I was certain to pursue higher studies in the UK. Among the UK universities, Warwick ranks high in Russell Group of Universities, is one of the finest and leading universities of the UK and globally renowned for its excellence in research and teaching. It has modern campus facilities and is very high on student satisfaction. My chosen subject, Psychology, revolves around inquiring about the human minds. It would be best taught and studied with the richly diverse international community on the Warwick campus. Different cultures and experiences will enrich the research, help to improve skills required to learn and master the subject. The competitive atmosphere will initiate the desire to excel. I wanted to study in a campus university which provides for social interactions and networking opportunities, community living and participation in several extracurricular activities. Warwick has a strong Student Union and plethora of societies which would have a positive impact on my personal growth and development. Indeed, Warwick was my first choice for higher education.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

Receiving a scholarship was definitely a proud moment for my family and me. I felt accomplished and motivated to continue the hard work. Furthermore, the scholarship has made me confident and competitive as I got the eagerness to continuously improve myself and create the best output possible. This scholarship was a stepping stone towards achieving my dream to study at Warwick.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

It was during the water break of the online ballet class when I noticed an email from Warwick offering full fee scholarship. I was spell bound for few seconds, then immediately informed my mum and dad, who were luckily at home. They were thrilled to see my dedication and hard work being recognized by one of the top ranking UK University. For reassurance, they read the email several times. They were overjoyed and showered me with lots of love and blessings. It was definitely a big moment for the family.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

My parents and I extensively researched on several UK Universities and shortlisted five for application. My school counsellor guided us through the application procedure with UCAS. I carefully drafted my personal statement which was reviewed by the counsellor. The application process on UCAS was quite simple and quick. Warwick had sent a guide for filling the visa application which was extremely helpful. I did not face any difficulty in submission of online visa application. I would say, the entire process from opening UCAS account to receiving the visa was very smooth.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

I was mesmerized with the enormous campus. Well designed and meticulously kept buildings, surrounded by green fields was eye catching. My attention was drawn towards the layout of the campus. I felt the architecture of the university is incredible and unique for each faculty. Open spaces and the serene environment gave me positive vibration and a sense of belonging. The accommodation blocks are located in such a manner which creates a homely atmosphere around. Having always lived in a big city, I felt, the campus was giving me a chance to choose my own pace. The moment I entered campus and began to explore, I felt safe, comfortable and at home.

What is the best thing about Warwick?

At the university, one can pursue educational goal along with the other passion. It helps you strike a balance between studies and recreation. The numerous societies in Warwick allow students to enrol in new activities and also continue an existing talent. It gives you a chance to explore an activity out of your comfort zone as well. I have chosen to continue my passion for dance and joined hip hop and salsa societies. Participation in different societies gives an opportunity to interact with student from different courses and backgrounds. It helps to unwind, engage with the brilliant minds and make life-long friendship. It also helps to approach the subject from another perspective. These events really help students to develop their character which I feel is equally important as academics.

What is the worst thing?

Although the University provides students with its best teachers, education, opportunities and the campus life, the only downside would be the location of the campus. Despite the beautiful buildings and scenic paths that we can walk past daily, Warwick is not located close to a large city which could sometimes makes it inconvenient to travel to places for social parties or other purposes.

How is your accommodation?

My accommodation is Claycroft which is on campus. It was my first preference and I am extremely happy with my room, the selection of my flat mates and the entire area itself. There is diversity in my accommodation which allows me to interact with people with different cultures. These aspects have helped me to make interesting conversations as I have learned a lot about everyone’s different lifestyle and personalities. My room has an appropriate amount of space and I have been able to settle in very well. Claycroft is ideally located, not too far from central campus or from the grocery store. This allows me to enjoy a scenic walk around campus which is not too time consuming either.

Are you a member of any societies? If so, what have you done with them?

Since I have been dancing from the age of four, I decided to continue my passion and improve upon my dance skills. For several years, I have been learning ballet, jazz and Latin at a graded level from Royal Academy of Dance. I decided to join Hip Hop and Salsa societies. I get a chance to showcase my talent and improve my performance skills. Towards the end of each session, we have to perform the choreography in groups. I realised that through these classes I have gained confidence and stage presence.

What are your plans when you graduate?

I am keen to understand the reasons for increasing mental disorder. The different aspects of psychology learnt over three years at the university would help me better perceive mental illness and psycho-emotional challenges. I aim to develop solutions to real-world problems and resolve complex emotional issues. After graduation, I plan to apply the knowledge on a broader platform. With the help of healthcare organizations, I plan to attend to people in mental distress and create a positive difference in their lives. I also plan to study further to become a clinical psychologist. Simultaneously, I would also want to continue learning and performing dance, as I am being able to on campus.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

Firstly, never miss an opportunity to apply for scholarship. Be confident and answer with all honesty. University is looking for some unique qualities and exceptional minds. Mention the experience or an event which is personal and relatable. You will be as surprised as I was, when I qualified for full fee scholarship. If you are the chosen one, it is your responsibility at all times to wisely spend your time in the university. You should do the university proud of their selection.

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

The university has a very good set of students from diverse cultures and regions. I now realise the impact of constant interaction with the international community. I feel, my association with them has brought positive influence to my personality.
